Yes, the US won in the overall metal count. But China beat us in gold metals. Is this upsetting? Very. But there is some consolation that comes when considering which metals we won, and which on they won.
We won men and womens basketball!!! They won women's archery...
We won men and womens beach volleyball!!! They won women's badminton...
We DOMINATED in swimming. They dominated in table tennis.
Basically, most of the metals they won were events that shouldn't have been included in the Olympics. So really, did we get more real gold metals than China? You tell me.

Medal count...yes...metals, no...However, when you think about it, you are right and the english language is wrong. We spell metal with a t, and all of the Medals are made of Metal..so don't you think the word should just be "metal" anyway?
And yes..I agree. We won in the cooler events. Although, what's up with 4 year old gymnasts?
Who gives a crap about ping pong or women's wieghtlifting?? I saw one of their "girls" put up an insane amount of weight and set a new record. wow, disgusting. I'll admit, their gymnastics were great. But if people think that China is all of a sudden athletic because of ping pong and wieghtlifting(keeping in mind they have about a billion people to choose from, literally) they are clueless. I don't mean to hate on China at all but seriously, the most prestigious events were not dominated by the Chinese
whoa whoa!
have you ever seen Forrest Gump play ping pong? so a sport.
